South African Science and Religion Forum (SASRF) publication
Theme: Does God evolve?
The discourse between science and religion on the topic of creation/evolution has been ongoing for decades. The conversation has hinged on the different understandings of origins. One topic that has not been expounded on concerns the question: “Does God evolve?”. Admittedly, this is a question that requires theological discussion and may not be of much interest to the natural sciences. How are we to make sense of the changing parameters in our understanding of the Doctrine of God? Does God change with the passage of time, or is our understanding of God subject to our own evolution (whether physically or in understanding)? This collection of papers seeks to create a platform where scholars engage these thoughts from different religious convictions, geographic locality, and cultural backgrounds.
Proposals from across disciplines are invited that focus on (but may not be limited to) the following themes:
- History of the Doctrine of God – changing perceptions
- Theories of beginnings and meaning of life from the natural sciences
- The subjective nature of theological discourse
- Doctrine of Revelation and human understanding
- Divine immutability?
- Fundamentals in the experience and expression of life
- Theological reflections on meaning as it relates to anthropology, Doctrine of God, and soteriology
