Transforming African laboratory diagnostic systems through digital technology and artificial intelligence
From in-vitro diagnostics to automated data collection and quality improvement, digital technologies and artificial intelligence are making ever increasing inroads into the everyday conduct of laboratory medicine. How these technologies will affect and be implemented in resource-limited settings is not known. To address this gap in knowledge, AJLM will publish a Special Collection of articles in 2024 focused on the integration and impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in Africa and other resource-limited regions.
The Editors of AJLM welcome research and review articles that include a focus on digital technology and/or artificial intelligence in relation to any aspect of laboratory medicine including, but not limited to, the following topic areas:
- Personalized and precision medicine
- Specific conditions, including communicable and non-communicable diseases
- Big data analytics and machine learning
- Pre- / post-analytical issues
- Workforce issues
Requirements for submission
- Article Type. In order to be considered for the 2024 Special Collection, articles must be formatted as an Original Research article or as a Review article. No other article types will be considered. Please carefully review the AJLM Author Submission Guidelines for required formatting and content and limitations on word counts and numbers of tables/figures, etc. before submitting.
- Completed Submission Form. All submissions must be accompanied by a compulsory ‘Authorship, disclosure statements, copyright, and license agreement form’ that has been completed in full and uploaded to the journal platform. Articles cannot be considered without a completed form.
- Ethical Clearance Documentation. Authors must upload a copy of the approval letter from their institutional ethics review committee to the journal platform at the time of submission for all articles including human subjects research. AJLM cannot consider submissions that are missing documentation of ethical clearance when required.
- Online submission. All articles must be submitted to AJLM’s online platform, https://ajlmonline.org, no later than the submissions closing date stated above.
AJLM is the official journal of the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) and focuses on the role of the laboratory and its professionals in the clinical and public healthcare sectors from an African frame of reference.
All articles in AJLM are published online and are open access. There are no fees to authors to publish and no fees to readers to access or download articles.
