Introducing: Moodle Educator Certification (MEC) Foundation Level for Digital Competence Pathway
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the long-anticipated Moodle Educator Certification (MEC), offered by AOSIS, South Africa’s leading Certified Moodle Partner since 2006.
The Moodle Educator Certification Program (MEC), only provided by Certified Moodle Partners, recognises and certifies mastery in building effective teaching and learning activities with Moodle.
2019 Intake Dates: 03 June, 01 July, 05 Augustus, 02 September
Course Cost: R 8200 incl. VAT
Duration: Six-weeks online learning
Teaching approach: Design, Guide, Connect, and Reflect. These four teaching approaches use the Relational Model for Teaching and Learning© (RMTL).
MEC Facilitator coaching per week: 0.5-hour scheduled and 0.5-hour unscheduled webinar sessions.
Designed for teachers, instructors, and trainers, this program uses leading research on curriculum development and digital competency standards to provide educators with transferable knowledge and skills that impact teaching and learning practice.
The MEC program is for teachers, instructors, and trainers who:
- seek certification and recognition for their mastery of teaching and learning goals and of the Moodle platform;
- want to develop their knowledge of essential educational digital competencies required of today’s educators; and
- wish to learn how to use Moodle in new and innovative ways.
Programme overview:
- Develop your skills with up to twenty-two modules focused on education-related digital competency pathways.
- Choose from three certification pathways:
- Foundation Level (6 foundation modules),
- Coming soon: Teaching Approach (4 specialisations),
- Coming soon: Comprehensive (all 22 modules).
- Actively learn through a series of video tutorials, applied examples, and design challenges guided by our trained Moodle Partner facilitators.
- Earn an open badge each time you complete a module.
- Get feedback and coaching advice from our Facilitators to assist you in developing, revising and completing your learning activities.
Foundation Level module learning outcomes:
- Universal Design: Respond to learners’ diverse needs and ensure accessibility to learning resources and activities in Moodle.
- Open Content: Locate, design, modify, and share properly attributed open content to support learning objectives.
- Guiding Learners: Guide learners by evaluating performance and responding to their needs.
- Teaching Tools: Explore new tools and strategies to guide learners toward achieving learning objectives.
- Learner Collaboration: Foster the creation and exchange of knowledge through collaboration and peer interaction.
- Assessment Strategy: Construct and revise assessments based on learning objectives and learner performance.
Each MEC module provides examples of how the Moodle platform can be used to build learning activities that effectively address a specific learning outcome. The MEC program purposely used only core Moodle functionality in the Design Challenge examples to ensure universal access to the same tools when participants transfer their MEC learnings to their local Moodle installation.

What to expect:
- Theory: Participants will delve into essential teaching and learning practices and learn how Moodle’s flexibility can be used to build creative and impactful learning experiences.

- Feedback: Receive guidance and support from MEC-certified Moodle Partner facilitators to develop your mastery of Moodle and the digital competencies.
- Certification: Earn module open badges and at the end of the six modules the Level Certification.
