PHCFM Editor-in-Chief appointed as Distinguished Professor
The Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Primary Health Care & Family Medicine (PHCFM), Prof. Bob Mash, was recently appointed as a Distinguished Professor at Stellenbosch University (SU). According to Prof. Wim de Villiers, Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the university, the title of “Distinguished Professor” was created to recognise SU’s very best academics, who have reached the pinnacle of achievement in their university careers. Prof. Mash is a new appointment in a group of 37 academics from across nine faculties.
Prof. Mash is the Head of the Department of Family and Emergency Medicine at Stellenbosch University, as well as the President of the South African Academy of Family Physicians (SAAFP), which is an official member of the World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA).
Among a list of achievements, Prof. Mash was selected by the South African Medical Association (SAMA) as the winner in the Extra-Ordinary Service to Medicine Award category for 2019, honouring him for his dedication and contribution to Family Medicine. The SAMA Doctors’ Awards ceremony, which is considered one of the most prestigious events among medical professionals in South Africa, recognises the outstanding achievements of public and private sector doctors in their respective fields.
Apart from being the Editor-in-Chief of PHCFM, Prof Mash also has close ties with our eCPD® Healthcare Department, being the co-author of two of our latest specialised online courses.
Join us in congratulating Prof. Mash on this well-deserved achievement.
