New scholarly journal launching soon
AOSIS is proud to announce that we are launching a new journal. New Contree was established in January 1977 and known initially as Contree, with a focus on urban and regional histories. After 1994 the name changed. Its scope extended to instil and disseminate specific and inclusive, comparative local and regional history debate in Africa in social contexts and its value in broader transnational contexts.
New Contree will serve as a scholarly voice and platform for instilling and disseminating specific and comparative local and regional history debate in Africa and its value in broader (transnational contexts). New Contree’s intellectual repertoire will complement a rigorous theoretically reflexive social history in which inclusivity in reconstructing the past from “below” (ordinary people’s voice and acknowledging smaller community activities) and also from “above” (being informed on related actions of, for example, central authority, government, and national figures) matters.
This new scholarly publication will be the latest addition to the ever-expanding collection of open access journals published by AOSIS. You can browse the AOSIS open access journal collection per scholarly field and browse by keyword or per author at library.aosis.co.za. All our open access content is free, and available to everyone upon publication. A physical copy can be purchased at the AOSIS Shop.
