The owners, partners, and staff members of AOSIS were deeply saddened to receive the news of the untimely passing of Professor Mary-Ann Plaatjies van Huffel. At the time of her passing, she was a Professor at the University of Stellenbosch (US) and the head of the World Council of Churches.

Professor Plaatjies van Huffel was a South African pastor and academic, and an editorial board member of the Journal: In die Skriflig. She was also the first female minister to be ordained by a Dutch Reformed Church in Southern Africa.

Professor Mary-Anne Plaatjies van Huffel made significant contributions in the church, locally and internationally, and in the Faculty of Theology at Stellenbosch University. She was a pioneer in many spheres of society, and we mourn her loss to the Theological profession and community, and to all she touched.
