Announcing the transfer of the ‘Southern African Journal of Anaesthesia and Analgesia’ to a new publisher

The South African Society of Anaesthesiologists (SASA), title owner of the Southern African Journal of Anaesthesia and Analgesia (SAJAA), is happy to announce that SAJAA will be published by AOSIS, an open-access scholarly publisher based in Cape Town, South Africa, as of 1 January 2026.
This transfer will bring with it some changes in terms of how the journal works, but not in terms of how the published content in the journal is accessed. Rest assured that readers will be able to access the most recently published open-access content on the journal’s website, which will still be at www.sajaa.co.za – even though the website will look different. Readers will also be able to access earlier published open-access content via Sabinet.
Relevant indexing and archiving services, such as African Index Medicus, African Journals Online (AJOL), Embase, Sabinet, Scopus, and the Web of Science Core Collection Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), will be informed of the transfer to a new publisher as well, to ensure that internationally held records of the journal are updated and current.
For authors of recently published articles specifically, rest assured that the status of accreditation of SAJAA by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) will be unaffected. The DHET will also be informed of the transfer from the current publisher to AOSIS.
For new and returning authors more generally, the support team at the new publisher will guide you through any changes that might affect you, for example, changes to your login credentials and passwords.
For authors and reviewers working on manuscripts that are currently in process – that is, manuscripts that are in review or that are in the final preparation phases prior to publication –, know that you will be informed of any actions that you might need to take or that will be taken that affect your manuscript or the manuscript you are working on. We and the publisher will strive to make this transition as smooth as possible. To this end, in time, a dedicated email address for author (and reviewer) queries will be communicated in order to provide a dedicated support channel.
Other significant changes will also be communicated in due course. Please keep an eye out for more updates in the coming months. We are looking forward to providing you, alongside the journal’s new publisher, with the best support that we can in this next phase in SAJAA’s journey.
All our best,
The SAJAA and SASA teams
