About the series
The Water Security and Climate Adaptation in Southern Africa Book Series advances rigorous, interdisciplinary scholarship addressing the growing challenges of water insecurity and climate change across Southern Africa and comparable regions.
The series foregrounds sustainable water governance, climate resilience, adaptive systems, hydrological risk management and equitable access to water resources. It aims to generate policy-relevant, evidence-based insights that strengthen institutional capacity, community resilience and long-term environmental sustainability.
Scope of the series
Proposals may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- Climate change impacts on water availability, quality and distribution
- Surface and groundwater management
- Water-related disasters, droughts and flood risk mitigation
- Water-energy-food nexus
- Transboundary water governance
- Indigenous knowledge and local adaptation practices
- Urban water security and infrastructure resilience
- Rural water access and livelihood sustainability
- Policy innovation and governance reform
- Tools, metrics and frameworks for assessing water security
- Sustainable Development Goals and water-climate linkages
Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches are strongly encouraged.

- Single-authored scholarly monographs
- Co-authored research books
- Edited collections
- Interdisciplinary volumes
All submissions must demonstrate strong theoretical grounding and/or robust empirical contribution.
Target audience
- Academics and researchers in environmental sciences, hydrology, climate studies, governance, development studies and related fields
- Policy-makers and water sector leaders
- NGOs and development practitioners
- Postgraduate students and research institutions
- Regional and international stakeholders engaged in water and climate adaptation
Proposal requirements
Prospective authors and editors should submit a formal book proposal including:
- Working title
- Rationale and contribution to the field
- Alignment with the series scope
- Target audience
- Proposed structure and chapter outline
- Estimated word count
- Timeline for completion
- Brief CV(s) of author(s)/editor(s)
Edited volumes should additionally include:
- List of proposed contributors
- Chapter abstracts
- Confirmation of contributor commitment
Review process
All proposals undergo initial editorial screening followed by peer review. Full manuscripts are subject to a single-blind peer review process in line with international academic standards.
