VACANCY: Assistant Editor for the ‘South African Family Practice’ journal

VACANCY: Assistant Editor for the South African Family Practice journal
We are pleased to announce that we are now inviting applications for one part-time and honorary position as Assistant Editor for the open-access South African Family Practice journal. This position will support the growth of the journal under the leadership and supervision of the Editor-in-Chief (EIC). South African Family Practice is the official journal of the South African Association of Family Physicians (SAAFP).
We aim to appoint one additional assistant editor, initially on a 1-year term with the option of an extension to a 3-year contract. The EIC and existing senior assistant editors will mentor this new assistant editor to support the peer review process of manuscripts; however, their primary focus will be on taking the lead with the following strategic activity:
- CPD content: Planning CPD articles in consultation with the EIC and editorial board, contacting potential authors, ensuring timely review of CPD content, and administering the CPD questionnaire. It will be important to monitor the SAAFP membership’s engagement with the CPD content and ensure relevant content, including a balance between clinical and non-clinical content.
The assistant editor will also support the other editorial board focus areas:
- Content and activities aimed at registrars and newly qualified family physicians: A key part of the readership is registrars and junior family physicians.
- Social media, marketing, branding, and interactive content (including podcasts): Supporting and growing a social media communication strategy in partnership with the editorial board podcast interest group.
It will be desirable for the CPD assistant editor to be clinically engaged and an active SAAFP member.
Experience with an online management system will be advantageous. Other requirements include strong written and spoken English language skills and working well in an online team environment.
Deadline for nomination and full CV: Friday, 1 December 2024.
Email your CV (inclusive of a cover letter, scholarly record and two references) to admin@saafp.org.
