Announcing the transfer of the Journal of Medical Laboratory Science & Technology of South Africa to a new publisher
The Society of Medical Laboratory Technology of South Africa (SMLTSA), title owner of The Journal of Medical Laboratory Science & Technology of South Africa (JMLSTSA), is pleased to announce that the JMLSTSA will be published by AOSIS, an open-access scholarly publisher based in Cape Town, South Africa, as of 1 February 2026.
The transfer from the current publisher to the new publisher will commence soon. There will thus be some changes in terms of how the journal looks and works, but users – that is, authors, reviewers, editorial board and team members, and readers alike – will still be able to access the website, once its new look is live, in the same place.
The ISSN registry will be informed of the change in publishers. For authors of recently published articles specifically, rest assured that the status of accreditation of the JMLSTSA by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) will be unaffected. The DHET will also be informed of the transfer from the current publisher to AOSIS.
For new and returning authors more generally, the support team at the new publisher will guide you through any changes that might affect you, for example, changes to your login credentials and passwords. For authors and reviewers working on manuscripts that are currently in process – that is, manuscripts that are in review or that are in the final preparation phases prior to publication –, know that you will be informed of any actions that you might need to take or that will be taken that affect your submitted manuscript or the manuscript you are working on.
In due course, a dedicated email address for author and reviewer queries will be communicated in order to provide a dedicated support channel. Other major changes will also be posted if and when applicable. Please keep an eye on the SMLTSA’s and JMLSTSA’s websites for more updates in the coming weeks.
We are looking forward to providing you, alongside the journal’s new publisher, with the best support that we can in this next phase in the JMLSTSA’s journey.
All our best,
The SMLTSA and the JMLSTSA teams
