Earn your CPD points on eCPD® Healthcare: A step-by-step guide for new users

Staying compliant with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements doesn’t have to be time-consuming. With eCPD® Healthcare’s fully online platform, you can earn your CPD points efficiently while expanding your knowledge. Here’s a clear, step-by-step guide on how to earn CPD points on eCPD® Healthcare.

1. Register for free to earn your CPD points

To start, you will have to register a profile on eCPD® Healthcare, which is free!

Your profile is important – it ensures that your CPD activities are correctly tracked and aligned with your professional body. Incorrect/lack of information could lead to CPD points not being granted and the information on your CPD certificates not being accurate.

2. Explore available options to earn points

We offer two ways to earn your CPD points. You can either purchase individual specialised courses, which are paid for per course, or sign up for a membership. Our specialised courses are longer in format and offer more CPD points per course, while the membership provides access to our express courses which are short, focused micro-courses worth 1–3 CPD points each.

Here are our available memberships:

• 6-Month HPCSA/AHPCSA membership
• 12-Month HPCSA/AHPCSA membership
• 12-Month Nursing membership

3. Course information

Before enrolling into a course, it could be beneficial to understand the layout of our courses.

• Categories: Our courses are separated into field of practice categories, to help guide users to courses curated specifically to their profession. To browse our available courses, simply click on the “Browse Express Courses” option given at the top of your dashboard page and then select to view “By Field of Practice”.
• New courses: We upload new courses on a monthly basis, usually at the end of each month, and all new courses can be found at the very top of the list of courses under each category.
• Clinical and Ethics: We offer both clinical and ethics courses, all clearly marked as clinical or ethics so that you know what field they fall under before enrolling. Both clinical end ethics courses can be seen under your field of practice category, or you can navigate your way to “Professional Ethics” to view only ethics courses that apply to all professions.

All of our courses are HPCSA and HPCNA accredited and recognised by AHPCSA, SANC and UMDPC, so you can have peace of mind knowing your CPD points will be valid in the eyes of your professional body.

4. Enrol and complete a course

In order to successfully earn CPD points on eCPD® Healthcare via our express courses, the following steps need to completed:

• Enrol into a course: Once you have identified the course you are interested in completing, you simply click on the name of the course and then on the “Enrol Now” button in the top right corner of the course page. You will then have full access to all relevant course materials.
• Read article: To complete the quiz and earn your CPD points, you will be required to read an article. We provide you with a link to read the article online as well as a downloadable PDF version for a more comfortable reading experience.
• Complete Quiz: After reading the provided article, you will need to complete a quiz. To successfully complete the quiz, you need to pass with a mark of 70% or more. You will only have 3 attempts to complete the quiz successfully. If you do not pass the quiz within the 3 attempts, you will not be able to complete this course in the future. We also provide you with a downloadable version of the quiz that you are able to print, making it easier to answer the questions while following along with the article. You then simply have to enter the answers into the online quiz and submit.
• Claim certificate: Once you have successfully completed the quiz, you must claim your certificate in order for the courses to be registered as completed. Simply click on the “Claim your CPD certificate” link to view your certificate. Your certificate will then automatically be stored on your CPD manager for easy access in the future.Claiming your certificate concludes the process of you earning your CPD points! If you are a member of the HPCSA, we will take care of submitting your points to them. All members belonging to other professional bodies will be able to submit their certificates to their respective professional bodies.

CPD manager

Our CPD manager is a convenient storage place for all your completed CPD certificates, even ones not completed through eCPD® Healthcare, making keeping track of your CPD points a breeze. To access your CPD manager, navigate your way to the top right corner of your dashboard page and click on your name. Click on the “CPD manager” option to view all your completed CPD activities.

It is important to note that you still need to check with your professional body that all the points reflecting on your CPD manager also reflects on your record with them. If this is not the case, please contact us at support@ecpd.co.za so that we can assist you.
