AOSIS welcomes New Editor-in-Chief of HSAG Gesondheid
AOSIS is pleased to announce that Professor Agnes Makhene was recently appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the open access scholarly journal Health SA Gesondheid – Journal of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences.
Professor Makhene takes over from Professor Charlene Downing, who served the journal with great success for an extended period. With an impressive list of academic qualifications to her name, she currently is an Associate Professor in the Nursing Department at the University of Johannesburg.
She has extensive experience and knowledge in the healthcare/nursing study field with several research manuscripts on nursing healthcare and education that is published in various journals. She co-authored open access book chapters and national and international conference presentations.
Having served on several executive boards and committees, Prof Makhene is currently a member of the South African Nursing Council Board, the Chairperson of the SANC Professional Conduct Committee, and a member of the SANC Research Committee.
Professor Makhene’s Vision Statement:
‘Health SA Gesondheid will continue to contribute to interdisciplinary and interprofessional scholarship as we consolidate our successes and grow to meet the needs of a changing research community. HSAG will continue to build on the legacy of my predecessors Professor Poggenpoel and Professor Downing as we continue to nurture novice researchers and capacitate the next generation of editors.’

Journal Focus and Scope
Health SA Gesondheid – Journal of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences is an open access, peer-reviewed interdisciplinary and interprofessional scholarly journal that aims to promote communication, collaboration and teamwork between professions and disciplines within the health sciences to address problems that cross and affect disciplinary boundaries. The journal is DHET accredited and is included in leading indexing services which include the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), SCOPUS, PubMed Central, SciELO SA and Web of Science Other Coverage, Emerging Sources Citation Index, ESCI, and PubMed Central.
Peer Review
The journal has a double-blinded peer review process. Manuscripts are initially examined by editorial staff and are sent by the Editor-in-Chief to two expert independent reviewers, either directly or by a Section Editor. Read our full peer review process.
