Advancing neurodiversity in education for equity, inclusion and employability.
The neurodiversity paradigm challenges pathologising accounts of neurodevelopmental differences in education and life in general. However, little is known about neurodiversity in the classroom, how teachers must effectively teach neurodiverse learners and what training is required for effective education of neurodiverse learners. This special issue calls for the advancement of neurodiversity in education. Pivotal to the neurodiversity paradigm is addressing inclusion for social justice in education.
This issue aims to address the reductive conceptualisations of neurodiversity for equity, inclusion and employability. Many parents wish to see their children become successful in school in preparation for the world of work. However, most learners with neurodiversity appear unable to acquire the necessary skills and competencies to enter the world of work. Others might be high functioning but misunderstood within the education systems.
This call proposes articles that will illuminate the role of teachers and education in addressing the learning needs of learners who are neurodiverse. Sharing best practices as well as challenges teachers have to be aware of and equip themselves to effectively deal with is desirous.
